Frank Velasco - Artist
Frank Velasco was born in Viracachá, Boyacá, Colombia. He is a self-taught plastic and visual artist, and he is a photographer with a Specialization in Photography. As a professional, he is a Civil Engineer with a Master’s in Water Resources and Environment.
From 2011, he has developed his career as a university professor, and in 2016, he graduated from a Master’s in Civil Engineering with Cum Laude academic honors; his research work was selected for presentation in the European Geosciences Union General Assembly, held in Vienna, Austria, from April 23 to April 28, 2017.
His education as an artist and a photographer has been the product of his own empirical search for knowledge. He has built a strong relationship between engineering as a hard science and the creative and imaginative processes of photography and art.
Pursuing his need for formalizing his own empiric studies and finding new narratives, in 2018 he completed his post-graduate studies as a Photography Specialist at the National University of Colombia with a photographic creation thesis focused on the study of female nude in contemporary art titled: “Aquamorfosis”.
Also, in this year, he was selected as a candidate for the Artistic Education Program (PFA, Programa de Formación Artística) offered by the Bogotá Museum of Modern Art, which helped him to strengthen his passion for research in art. He has participated in multiple exhibitions, such as “Bitácoras de la Creación” (“Logbook of Creation”) organized by the Centro Colombo-Americano, “Desnudo Interior” (“Inner Nude”), organized by the Goya Gallery, “F.R.I.E.N.D.S.4” by Galería Compacta, among others.
Currently, he is still committed to his teaching work, and is preparing various research projects on photography and arts, focused on the body as central concept, on the criticism to the manipulation exerted by doctrines on human beings, among other personal works. Also, he is partially dedicated to commercial, advertising, and social photography.
